Teppei Soutome “GEO”

The exhibition “GEO” consists of a group of works by the artist Teppei Soutome, including some newly drawn for this exhibition.
The name of the exhibition, “GEO,” has two meanings. The first is “Geometry. Many of Soutome’s works are constructed from geometrical forms, creating an organic impression even while keeping the elements to a minimum.

The other is earth-based concepts such as “Geoglyph,” “Geodetic,” and “Geology. These are principles of nature that surface after the pursuit of simplicity. Soutome’s work seems to be a metaphor for this.
These contradictory concepts coexist and coexist in symbiosis in this exhibition.

All works in the exhibition will be available for purchase, and a limited number of rugs featuring Soutome’s work in their designs will be available for sale as original merchandise at the gallery.

Artist

Teppei Soutome

Born in 1980 in Tochigi Prefecture, graduated from Tokyo Zokei University in 2005 with a BFA in painting. Since his first solo exhibition in 2007, he has exhibited mainly paintings, interweaving three-dimensional works, photographs, and videos. Later, he developed his work in various ways by focusing on the material aspect of painting, such as using deformed canvases and freestanding supports, and attempting to create works from layers of mediums.In recent years, working with different mediums such as acrylic, photography, glass, and silkscreen in the layers of paint to create new works that incorporate events and happenings that he has captured. Public collections include the National Museum of Art(Osaka), and the Museum of Contemporary Art (Tokyo).
