Hidetoshi Muramatsu”Return to Stone”

2025.11.21(Fri)-2026.1.12(Mon)

“The Time of Stone, the Time of Objects, the Time of People.
In the intersection of these, a work comes into being.”

Between the eternal time that stone possesses and the time of tools born from human life,
Hidetoshi Muramatsu excavates the layers of memory that lie in between through the act of sculpture.

Objects once used and having fulfilled their roles are given new breath as stone once again.
Though their function is lost, their presence remains—
eventually becoming “sculptures of time” that connect the past and the future.

“Function ceases, yet existence remains.”

A chance encounter at an antique shop,
or a quiet realization that comes after years spent with an object—
a moment when he thinks, “It is time to turn this into stone.”
From that calm resolve, fragments of everyday life begin to fossilize,
guided toward eternity.

Return to Stone —
Under the thought that “all origins lie in stone,”
Muramatsu contemplates the cycle in which all things return once more to stone.
